5 Things to Expect from a Brazilian Wax

Did you know that a study of college women shows that 62% get Brazilian waxing done regularly? That translates into the average population as well!

If you've been thinking about getting a Brazilian wax, then you'll be joining the majority of women.

Not sure what to expect? To learn more about what to do and what to expect, keep reading!

1. Prepare First for the Brazilian Wax

The first thing you need to know about getting a Brazilian wax is how to prepare for it. While there is not a whole lot that you can do for it, there are a few things that may lessen the pain for you.

For starters, avoid the time around your period. You are more prone to have sensitive skin and more pain around this time of the month. If you do realize that your wax appointment is around this time, you can always call to change it. This is your call, as you know your pain tolerance.

Although you may feel uncomfortable if you are actually on your period, you can still go get a wax during this time.

If pain is not something that you enjoy or are good with, you should consider taking a dose of a painkiller like Advil about 30 minutes before your wax to reduce the pain.

While all of this is helpful, the most important thing to know about preparing is that you should have at least 1/4 inch of hair in the pubic area to be waxed off. If you do not, you will want to reschedule for a later date.

2. Hair Removal Process

Once you are ready to go and in the waiting room, you are most likely going to be a bit nervous (especially if it is your first time). It's better to know what to expect during the hair removal process so that you can properly prepare mentally!

The first thing that happens is a cleaning of the area. Usually this is done with a wipe.

Once the area is clean, the waxing begins. They will go strip by strip, so it does take about 15 minutes to go through the entire process.

It is best to keep breathing during the wax to reduce pain - the more worried and anxious you are, the more tense your body is, which can create more pain.

When it comes time for them to wax your butt, you will have to curl up into the fetal position and hold your legs up to make it easier on the aesthetician. This can feel odd at first, but this part is quick and easy!

After the waxing is complete, there may be a chance that the waxer will use tweezers to get any tough hairs so that you are completely bare. With a Brazilian wax, your waxer will also ask you if you want a completely bare or if you want a strip left in the front.

At the end of the appointment, the waxer will apply a cream or a gel to create a soothing feeling in the area and to reduce inflammation and redness.

If it is your first time, it is best to talk to your waxer to let them know you are nervous and your thoughts. They can usually cater to this to help you through the process.

3. Be Prepared for the Brazilian Waxing Room

The waxing room is a relaxing place!

When you first enter, you will take off your pants and put them in the corner. You will hop on the table and lay with your legs in a butterfly position to make the wax easier on the aesthetician.

4. What to Expect After

When you walk out of the waxing room, you can expect to feel a little raw and sensitive in the area. It may make it more comfortable if you wear loose pants or leggings to your appointment for less friction.

It is also a best practice to use an exfoliator or ingrown hair solution to prevent any ingrown hairs on your bikini line or elsewhere.

5. Things to Stay Away From

While you can go back to normal activities for the most part, you definitely do not want to attend a workout class right after your wax. They do suggest you usually wait about 24 hours - that's up to you, but right after is never a good idea.

It can be really uncomfortable with chafing and friction if you are moving around a lot with running, a spin class, or something similar. If you want to try pilates or yoga, that may be a better option!

You will also want to stay out of the sun for about 24 hours after the wax. The wax brings out new skin that is extremely sensitive, so it is very easy to burn as well if it sees the sun. If you do have plans to go to the beach, just be sure to wear shorts for the day to cover up your bikini line!

Brazilian Bikini Wax: To Do or Not?

Getting a Brazilian wax may be worth it to you for the Brazilian wax before and after feel, but it's not your only option!

You may want to go through a sugaring process instead. This is one way to get rid of unwanted hairs with less pain! Not only will you experience less pain, but it is faster and works with your body at your body's temperature rather than against the grain!

If you are ready to try it out, you can book an appointment now at L.A. Bikini.
